Proper Care For Ceramic and Porclean tiles |

Ceramic Tile Floors Simple daily cleaning is all it takes to keep ceramic floors in their prime. Without regular maintenance, grit and grim will wear away a tile's finish. Here are some quick ways to care for ceramic tile floors: Sweep, vacuum or dust-mop the entire floor. Gently remove any stuck-on debris with a putty knife or nylon scouring pad. Damp-mop with a solution of household cleaner such as "Simply Green" and water. Damp-mop with clean water to rinse. Allow to dry (or wipe dry if finish is highly polished so there are no water spots). Important tips for maintaining ceramic floors: Never use abrasive cleaners. Like tracked-in dirt, they dull the shiny finish. Carefully check cleaning product labels to make sure they contain no abrasives. Heavily soiled or neglected floors may require the use of a commercial tile cleaner. Janitorial supply houses have a wide selection of products. Read the directions and follow them exactly. Put a mat outside each door and a rug just inside to collect dirt before it gets onto the floor. Ceramic Tile Walls Typically, ceramic wall tiles are used in bathrooms and kitchens, where we often use abrasive household cleaners. A basic rule of thumb is to avoid abrasive cleaners when maintaining ceramic tile walls. Abrasive cleaners will dull the tile's finish, creating a rough surface that will actually attract soap scum and grime. Important tips for maintaining ceramic walls: In the bathroom, clean the wall surface with a sponge and a non-abrasive tub and tile cleaner. Spray all surfaces, wait a few minutes, then use the sponge to wipe clean. Hard water stains can be removed with a 1:1 solution of vinegar and water. A spray-on daily shower cleaner washes away soap scum before it sticks to the tile, and will help minimize cleaning. In the kitchen, a regular, thorough wiping with a clean, damp sponge and a mild household cleaner will keep tile backsplashes and walls spotless. Window cleaner does a good job of shining up glossy tiles. Countertops Ceramic tile's durable beauty make excellent countertops and will survive years' of use with style. As with other surfaces, simply avoid abrasive cleansers and clean up spills immediately. If a spill dries, use a sponge, hot water and a non-abrasive household cleaner to remove. Most stains can be removed with a nylon-bristle brush or nylon-scouring pad. For stubborn stains, try one of these solutions for stain removal: Lipstick, nail polish - nail polish remover Coffee, tea, foods, fruit juices, blood - hydrogen peroxide or a weak bleach solution Ink or permanent marker - a weak solution of ammonia Paint - mineral spirits Note: Never mix bleach with any other cleaning fluid. And always use pH-neutral cleaners—acid-based cleaners can damage both tile and grout. Porcelain Tile Porcelain tile is inherently strong, durable and non-porous. These properties mean that porcelain can withstand almost any extreme condition. Whether its harsh temperatures or daily wear and tear, porcelain handles most situations gracefully. That strength - coupled with today's beautiful designs - is making porcelain a leading choice in surfacing material for indoor and outdoor applications. Important Tips for maintaining porcelain floors Porcelain is an ideal flooring option. Little maintenance is required for this durable, hard-to-stain floor covering. Depending on the amount of foot traffic, weather/climate and the outside environment, daily sweeping and damp mopping is the only care a porcelain tile floor will require. For more thorough cleaning, follow these procedures: Polished-tile floors: Sweep, vacuum or dust-mop the entire floor. Damp-mop with a solution of pH-neutral cleaner and water. Damp-mop with clean water to rinse. Dry or buff. Unpolished-tile floors: Sweep, vacuum or dust-mop the entire floor. Saturate the surface with neutral cleaning solution, and agitate the solution with a mop or scrubbing machine. Allow the solution to sit on surface for at least five minutes. Remove the dirty solution with a wet-vac, or mop with clean water to rinse. Dry-mop or towel-dry. Slate and other textured tile floors: Sweep or vacuum the entire floor (work in two directions). Saturate the surface with a neutral cleaning solution, and agitate the solution with a mop or scrubbing machine. Allow the solution to sit on surface for at least five minutes. Use a scrubbing machine or bristle brush to scrub (work in two directions). Rinse with clean water, and remove with a wet-vac or by dry toweling. Important tips for maintaining porcelain walls Wall tiles are also easy to clean and maintain. Simply use a clean, damp sponge and one of the many non-abrasive household cleaners. Spray the cleaner on all the surfaces, and wait a few minutes before wiping and rinsing. A penetrating sealer for grout may help make the surface even more impervious to staining. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines when applying a penetrating sealer. Do not apply any type of top finish or wax to porcelain tile. Such coatings will change the appearance of the tile, make the surface shinier, decrease slip resistance, and increase maintenance requirements. | Return Home | About Us | Installation Projects | Business Hours | Catalog | Proper Care | Contact Us | Directions | |
